Swine flu tips panel

Monday, May 18, 2009, 09:20

TO REDUCE transmission from someone with symptoms to healthy or susceptible people:

Encourage those who are ill to go home and remain there until the symptoms have cleared.

If unavoidable, symptomatic people are advised not to visit places of business during busy periods. In addition they should carry out electronic transactions instead of handling cash.

Wherever possible there should be physical barriers between the customer and member of staff.

Individuals with symptoms should be encouraged to wear face masks if face-to-face interactions are unavoidable. Good hand hygiene should be employed.

To reduce the risk of healthy or susceptible people becoming infected:

Provide information to remind people of the signs and symptoms of flu and the steps that can be taken to minimise the risk of infection.

Provide hand hygiene facilities.

Increase cleaning – normal cleaning agents can be used to clean those surfaces frequently touched by hands.

Staff are being told to regularly wash hands.
