Housing firm launches new support project

Thursday, March 11, 2010, 09:20

SOCIAL landlord Aspire is launching a "floating support" package for vulnerable residents.

The Newcastle-based firm has won £150,000 funding from Government agency Supporting People to provide assistance to older people, homeless people and the young unemployed.

As part of the programme, Aspire's independent living team will offer three new services – support for the over 55s, temporary housing for anyone needing a permanent home and tailor-made training for young people aged 16 to 25 seeking work.

The initiative, which will be open to people who are not Aspire customers as well as existing clients, will also target residents who may be experiencing problems moving into a new home.

Group chief executive Sinead Butters said: "We are committed to promoting independence and enabling our customers to access, manage and maintain suitable housing, whatever their current situation.

"Through our social enterprise arm PM Training, we are also working hard to help local young people find sustainable employment.

"This floating support provides a valuable lifeline to a range of people and I am delighted we can provide this service for at least the next two years, working with Staffordshire County and Newcastle Borough councils."
